Rolling Stone Korea Interview

H1-Key: Empowering the Next Generation Through Music

Our Charming H1-KEY Girls Embark on Their Third Year, Making Waves Since Their Debut in 2022. From the moment they entered the music scene, they’ve captured the hearts of everyone who’s had the pleasure of listening. Their bold and original musical style fearlessly blends rhythms from cultures not yet fully popular in Asia, setting them apart in the industry.

H1-KEY’s success was inevitable, and it was their current hit ‘Rose Blossom’ that marked the beginning of their meteoric rise. This single not only earned them recognition in their home country but also in global K-pop circles. The power of their voices and the unique charisma each member has embraced as her own strength allowed ‘Rose Blossom’ to steadily climb the charts, reaching the top spots.

We met in the lobby of their PR agency, and in a truly remarkable gesture, they introduced themselves one by one. My excitement grew even more when I realized that their naturalness wasn’t just a character they had to portray as artists, but reflected powerful women with an energy of kindness, nobility, and above all, a genuine and unique way of presenting themselves. That confidence that only comes from those who have worked honestly and relentlessly to achieve their goals.

From the leader to the Maknae, each of them responded with confidence and without hesitation, yet always with a blend of gentleness and emotion that reflected their authenticity. It was clear how grateful they were for the opportunity given by such a prestigious outlet as Rolling Stone Korea, a space where they could express their thoughts and feelings freely. In this moment, they shared how their journey has led them to become symbols of female solidarity, a theme that many ask about but which they have embraced proudly and boldly as their banner.

Their story is much more than a tale of success; it is a source of inspiration for thousands of women, girls, and people around the world. It reminds us that true strength lies not only in determination but also in kindness, that it’s possible to dream big, and above all, that the future is filled with endless possibilities for those who believe in themselves. These young women have shown us that, with courage and authenticity, we can be the best version of ourselves while staying true to our roots and values.

  1. [RSK] Could you tell us a little about the concept you are currently showing to your fans in this version of the group? Also, what do you think is the unique ‘plus’ that makes K-Pop artists the current global trend? What sets them apart and gives them a prominent place?

RIINA: K-pop has established itself as a truly global trend, and I think that’s exactly what has allowed us to get to where we are today. In K-pop we focus on something much deeper: the lyrics and music that really touch properly .

We strive to create music that is not only catchy, but connects on an emotional level, transcending borders and cultures. K-pop, at its core, is an incredibly versatile genre that reflects global trends, fusing rhythms from around the world to offer a musical proposition that appeals to all cultures. It’s a vibrant mix born of creativity, passion, and respect for diverse multicultural influences.

SEOI: H1-Key, as a whole, is actively defining that trend, and we are not so much concerned with external perception, but rather with the emotional and lyrical depth of each song. We are deeply connected to our art and focus on the essence of each track, on the message we want to convey to the world. Our goal is not just to make music, but to deliver something genuine that resonates with the world.

  1. [RSK] That sounds very interesting. Well, in this cultural exchange, I come from Latin America. In our culture we have a variety of unique rhythms, some of them cultural heritage of humanity. I would like to know, have you had the opportunity to listen to some of our music?

YEL: I was wondering what kind of music we would like to create. We haven’t really explored all the genres we’re passionate about yet, but we definitely think we can showcase many different facets of ourselves. The idea of collaborating and organically merging with other artists excites us greatly, as it allows us to experiment and grow. If given the chance, we’d love to collaborate with artists who truly embody unique and authentic sounds, something that inspires us to continue.

The passion to create something truly original, fusing the musical rhythms of Latin America, energizes us. There is an immense richness in Latin music, from the warmth of reggaeton to the vibrant energy of its folklores. We are excited to take those distinctive sounds and give them a fresh twist, while always maintaining the essence of authenticity. We want to create music that respects and celebrates that cultural diversity, taking it to new horizons while keeping alive the passion that unites us.

  1. [RSK] I really admire the youthful essence of your artistic vision. I would love to learn more about the creative process behind each song and concept. I’m sure there’s a lot of work and passion involved, but how do you manage to transform that inspiration into a project that is not only so authentic, but also so altruistic?

HWI SEO: I thought no matter what job or situation we were in, we all had something in common: a deep connection that united us. It was something totally natural for us. There were moments full of passion, like when we were more young, and that genuine energy is what allowed the public to feel so close to us. I am convinced that authenticity and dedication are what really connect us with people, and it is something that always gives us strength and faith.

YEL: Although the lyrics focus on the courage to stand up to societal pressures, what we really want to highlight is how all of that has been part of our journey, bringing us to this point to be able to express that courage. Every word, every feeling, is loaded with all the pain, challenges, and circumstances we have had to go through in life. It is a reminder that each struggle has made us stronger, and that is what we seek to convey with each song: the authenticity of our story, the authenticity of our life, the courage to face the challenges of our life…

  1. [RSK] In this industry we know that this is a long-term career, and I would like to know how you see yourself evolving over the next five years. What expectations do you have for the future of your career? How do you see yourself growing and achieving new goals in that time?

SEOI: In five years, when I’m asked about my future, I usually say I want to be on a big stage, sharing my music with the world. However, recently I’ve been reflecting on something even more important: I want to be an inspiration for younger singers, those who can look to me as a role model. My greatest wish is for there to be more artists willing to be that reference for those newer to the industry.

Being a role model for my juniors would be one of my greatest achievements as an artist. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished so far, and I know my juniors will also be proud of me, of what I represent, and of what I’ve built with effort and passion. In five years, I’d like there to be more artists who want to work with me, who are inspired by what I do and the mark I hope to leave. The idea of being able to guide them and be part of their growth fills me.

  1. [RSK] Fans are an essential part of all your success, it depends on how you connect with your audience who are always there to support you. I would like you to send a special message to those girls who feel that your music speaks to them, that it gives them the strength to be themselves, that it empowers them. What would you like to say to those people who have found peace and stability through your music?

HWI SEO: We feel incredibly grateful for those fans who have given us so much love and unconditional support. We know that our music has been a source of peace and stability for many people, and that makes us proud. We want them all to know that we are here for them, and that their love and support are what keep us strong, motivated, and ready to continue growing alongside them. Every time we feel that connection, it inspires us to keep going and to keep spreading that message of empowerment and hope.

RIINA: We know that we, as well as all the artists, owe a lot to our fans, and we want them to know that we will always give our best to make them feel proud of our work. Especially to the girls, we want to remind them that the most important thing will always be the beauty they carry in their hearts. Nothing that anyone can say to them, no matter how offensive, could break the strength they carry within. It fills us with joy to be part of that strength, of that mutual support, and to continue accompanying them on their path.

  1. [RSK] For the last question, I’d love to know, what exciting projects do you have coming up? What can you share with the Rolling Stone Korea audience? Is there anything special you can tell us about?

RIINA: On January 5, we had our first concert and it was an experience that brought us even closer to our audience. Seeing all the support they give us and how that bond grows every day is a motivation that fills us with pride and gratitude. We would love for you and the Rolling Stone Korea team to join us at our upcoming shows in the future. We are very grateful for this space and with all our love, we hope that all readers can connect with us through this interview. We are very excited!
